Why play with a Pro Grip Controller?
I’ll be the first to say it, there are almost endless options for how you can play a Nintendo Switch. Personally I am a huge fan of a ‘controller experience’ but also enjoy the portability of the Switch while on the go. While commuting, I often whip the switch out for some rocket league on my way to work. However, I find it quite difficult to play while using the stock joy cons as they are a little small and inadequate for my large hands. Of course upgrading the stock JoyCons to the larger Powerwave Joy Pads helped alleviate this a little, but even these for me personally at least, left me wanting the portability of an attached controller but also the controller feel. Enter the Powerwave Switch Pro-Grip.

Why not use a controller or JoyCons?
Not only are Nintendo’s stock joy-cons uncomfortably small for my massive hands, but they can also suffer drift, This makes playing competitive games that require accuracy far more difficult to enjoy. What I instantly noticed when swapping to the Powerwave Pro-Grip is that; I was ranking far higher and even winning more often in competitive situations like Fortnite. Then jumping over to Rocket League (for reference – I typically play on PC with a Xbox Series X/S controller) I found it far more comfortable with the added benefit of a familiar feel to the joysticks – These are very similar in size, shape and texture to that of the Xbox Joysticks and this had me scoring goals with ease.

Gaming Australia’s Review
Not only does the Pro-Grip improve on the feel of playing handheld, it also adds functionality with the turbo button. Gaming Australia journalist Jamie Robinson recently published an article on the Pro Grip Controller commending the grip and his experience with it in games like Animal Crossing, Here is what he has to say: “My absolute favourite feature about the Pro Controller Grip is the Turbo button. The turbo button allows you to set any button on the controller to press repetitively while simply holding the button down. I used this in Animal Crossing to automatically farm resources etc. It was a massive improvement over constant button presses. Honestly, it made the game so much more enjoyable, so absolutely turn this on as soon as possible if you play games such as Animal Crossing.”
